Introduction

簡介

Formed in 2021, Olympiad in Informatics Team (OI Team) is a young student-oriented school team that is all about competitive programming. We aim to train students’ problem-solving and programming skills.

電腦奧林匹克校隊 (OI Team) 於 2021 年成立，是一隊年輕、以學生為主導的學術性校隊。本隊以競技編程為本，旨在訓練同學的解題及編程能力。

Since the team’s formation three years ago, we have been creating the programming culture in the campus, encouraging students to unleash their potential.

創隊三年多來，我們逐漸在校園構建編程文化，鼓勵同學發掘個人潛力。

Becoming a team member not only enhances your personal skills, but also plays an important role in the process of cultivating the team’s culture and driving our development forward.

成為本校隊的一份子，不但能增進個人技能，亦能參與創造校隊文化的重要過程，成為推動本隊發展不可或缺的一部分。

Our Story

我們的故事

The OI Team has grown steadily since its establishment more than three years ago and is starting to establish a mature system, with some students achieving great results in external competitions. As a former Leader, I am gratified and proud of the team’s development.

OI Team 自三年多前成立以來一步步成長，至今已建立了初步成熟的制度，一些同學亦能在校外比賽中取得佳績。作為曾經的隊長，我對隊伍的發展感到欣慰及自豪。

Since Coach Hsi “Haye” Chan returned to his alma mater to develop OI activities in 2019, our team has been destined to have the DNA of “inheritance”. Senior members lead new members into the world of OI through the C++ Foundation Course, members engage in academic discussions in their spare time, and alumni and students lead various training and internal contests. Our team gradually builds a culture of selfless sharing within the campus, growing stronger through the inheritance of generations of team members.

自 2019 年陳爔教練重返母校發展 OI 活動，本隊便注定藴藏着「傳承」之基因。資深隊員在 C++ 基礎課程帶領新隊員進入 OI 世界、隊員自發在空餘時間進行學術討論、校友及學生主導各種訓練及隊內比賽……本隊逐漸在校內構建無私分享、攜手進步的優良文化、在一代代隊員的傳承中逐漸壯大。

From students to alumni, from leaders to coaches, the change in identity does not hinder our enthusiasm and dedication to OI Team. I believe that more members will do the same in the future, and the team will continue to advance in this endless relay.

從學生至校友、從隊長至教練，身份的改變無阻我們對 OI Team 的熱情及付出。我深信更多的隊員未來亦同樣如此，校隊亦能在這場接力賽中承前啟後、永不停步。

It has been a long time since I joined the OI Team in 2022. Former Leader Wong sparked my interest in computers, combined with my “appreciation” to his sometimes cold and sometimes sarcastic jokes, I became a part of this lovely team. I wasn’t a particularly talented student and didn’t achieve much, yet I was deeply attracted by the diverse algorithms and skills we learnt during that time.

自 2022 年加入 OI Team 以來已有三年。遙想當初，正是黃前隊長啟發我對編程的熱愛，我亦在他冷笑話的炮轟下成為 OI Team 的一員。我自認天賦一般，卻自此沉醉於編程的海洋中。

Learning programming in OI Team is fun. As a TWGSS graduate and a current Computer Science student at CUHK, I highly recommend that every student who are interested in coding to join. Not only will you have valuable opportunities to participate in both internal and external OI competitions to enhance your skills, but you will also meet a group of irreplaceable companions who are always by your side to support you.

於 OI Team 學習編程常與快樂相伴。作為荃官畢業生及現中大計算機科學學生，我誠摯邀請所有憧憬編程的同學加入。加入後，不僅會獲得參與對內外編程比賽的機會，更將認識一群志同道合、無法替代的 OI 夥伴。

Joining the OI Team has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my academic journey. Not only have I improved my programming skills, but I’ve also strengthened my ability to think logically and solve problems. The team is a place where like-minded people gather, encourage one another, and develop together — it’s not just about competitions.

加入 OI Team 是我至今在學習中最有成就感的經歷之一，我不僅從中提升了編程水平，亦加強了邏輯思維及解決問題的能力。本隊不僅僅為比賽而生，而是一個聚集了志同道合的同學，一起相互鼓勵、共同發展的地方。

We receive structured but engaging training that challenges us with tough problems while allowing each of us to learn at our own pace. The C++ Foundation Course and guidance from senior members will help you get started on your OI adventure, even if you have never programmed before.

本隊提供有組織而有趣的培訓，同時允許隊員按照自己的節奏學習，嘗試解決具挑戰性的題目。即使你以往從未曾接觸編程，我相信 C++ 基礎課程及資深隊員的指導將在你探索 OI 的道路上提供莫大幫助。

The OI Team is the perfect place for you if you enjoy solving problems, the excitement of competitions, or just want to learn more about the world of coding. Whether you are a beginner or not, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are the most important factors for success.

Sure! There are many reasons to join the OI (Olympiad in Informatics) Team, and here are the three main ones:
1. Enhance Programming and Mathematical Skills: Through training in OI Team, you will learn how to use programming and Mathematical methods to solve problems. This will equip you with knowledge in these fields.
2. Problem-Solving Ability: Through competitions, you will learn various problem-solving skills and train your logical thinking.
3. Coolness: When you sit in front of the computer, focusing on solving problems with your fingers dancing on the keyboard, people will definitely think you are really ~~toxic~~ cool. (Just kidding!)

收到！加入 OI (Olympiad in Informatics) Team 嘅原因有好多，以下係三個主要嘅理由：
1. 提升編程及數理能力：喺 OI Team 嘅訓練，你會學到如何運用編程及數學解決問題，增加有關知識。

As an AI (actually it’s just me pretending), I might only come up with these three reasons. But as a human, I think the most important thing is the companions you meet on your OI journey and the joy of coding together. I believe that the time you spend after school in CAL, laughing and playing with like-minded teammates, will be precious memories for you. Now, we invite you to join us and create more memories for yourself, and also for the future OI Team.

對於 AI（其實都係我扮）嚟講，可能得依三樣，不過作為人類，我覺得仲有一樣最重要，就係你踏上 OI 之路嘅時候沿途收穫嘅同伴，同埋你哋一齊 dup code 嘅歡樂。我相信，你每日放學留喺電腦室，同一班志同道合嘅同學一齊笑哈哈咁玩嘅時光，絕對係非常寶貴嘅回憶。依家，我哋邀請你嚟同我哋製造更多回憶，亦都為以後嘅 OI Team 製造更多回憶。

We now have a better-established recruitment process and more interesting training compared to before. This is arguably the best time to join us. You might worry about whether the team is suitable for you or fear that you might not perform well after joining, but how would you know without trying? I look forward to seeing your name on the member list!

比起之前，依家已經有更加完善嘅招生模式，更加有趣嘅 training，可以話依家係最適合加入嘅時候。可能有啲人會驚唔知適唔適合自己，或者怕自己入隊之後表現唔好，但係你唔試過又點知呢？期待到時可以喺成員名單見到你嘅名！

In the few years since I joined the OI Team, I have gained valuable experience in practising my programming skills. The skills I have polished extend beyond just C++ programming. They involve logical and mathematical abilities as well. This development is beneficial for sharpening one’s mind and enhancing problem-solving capabilities, especially in high-pressure situations where time is limited to understand and resolve complex problems.

自數年前加入 OI Team 以來，我在練習編程技能中獲得了寶貴的經驗。我學到的不僅僅局限於 C++ 編程知識，更包括了邏輯及數學能力。以上種種對於訓練思維及提高解題能力大有幫助，尤其有助於在有限時間的高壓環境下理解和解決複雜問題。

I believe it is important to emphasise that OI and programming are not restricted by gender. Every student who is interested in these fields should feel encouraged to participate. In 2024, the first Hong Kong Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics (HKGOI) was held, providing more opportunities for girls in the region. It is my hope that girls who are passionate about programming will join our team to learn and enjoy the fun of programming together.

我深信 OI 及編程不受性別限制，每一位對其感興趣的同學都能受到鼓勵而參與其中。2024 年舉行了首屆香港女子電腦奧林匹克競賽 (HKGOI)，為香港女生提供了更多機會。我希望更多感興趣的女生能加入我們，一起學習並享受編程的樂趣。

Time flies, it’s already my third year in the OI Team. I joined the team out of my interest in computers. Initially, my performance wasn’t outstanding, but OI still deeply fascinated me. Every problem I encounter makes me dive in deep until I fully understand and solve it. Moreover, progress is always visible in OI. As long as you are willing to learn, you can handle more problems. It’s truly encouraging to experience the progression from thought to result.

光陰似箭，轉眼已是我在 OI Team 的第三年。想當初出於對電腦的興趣加入校隊，雖然一開始的表現並不出彩，但 OI 卻仍令我深深着迷，其中遇到每一道題目總是會令人忍不住一頭闖進去，直到完全理解及成功解決為止。再者，在 OI 中取得的進步是肉眼可見的，只要肯努力學習新知識，你就能應付更多題目；這種從思考轉換到結果的進展絕對是鼓舞的。

Although knowledge in OI may have some limitations (such as algorithms) that may not be directly applicable in real life, the problem-solving ability it brings can be applied to most scenarios, helping us to overcome difficulties. I delved into different fields with this important skill. I might still make some progress in those fields without OI, but I doubt my journey would be as smooth as it is now.

雖然 OI 的知識未必能帶到現實生活，但其帶給個人的絕對不只是學到的算法，而是一種解難的能力。它不像特定算法那般具有局限性，而是能夠被帶入大部分場景，幫助你度過難關。我從 OI 出發，深入到不同的領域；沒有了 OI，或許我也能在那些領域中取得一些進展，但道路絕不會像如今那般順暢。

What OI brings to me is not limited to competitions, knowledge and code. It truly integrates into and enriches my life.

OI 帶給我的絕對不限於那些比賽，也不會僅限於那些知識點和代碼；而是真正能融入到生活中，為人生增值。

After joining the OI Team in Secondary 2, I have learnt how to solve problems using different methods. For example, when searching for specific data from a list, I used to search from the first or the last data point. However, after learning binary search, I can now use a higher average speed to find the data I need.

在中二加入 OI Team 後，我學會了使用不同的解題方法。例如在列表中搜索特定數據時，以往我會從第一項或最後一項數據開始搜索，現在學會二分搜索後，我可用更高的平均速度找到我需要的數據。

Apart from learning different skills, we have many opportunities to participate in various external and internal competitions, such as HKOI and SDIC. These are valuable opportunities for gaining Other Learning Experiences (OLE), which can broaden your horizons.

除了學習各種技巧外，我們還有很多參加各種校外及校內比賽的機會（如 HKOI、SDIC 等）。除了可獲取寶貴的其他學習經歷 (OLE) 外，更可以擴闊你的視野。

We welcome all Secondary 1-4 students that are interested in Computer, Mathematics, or are just curious about programming or problem-solving to join us.
我們歡迎所有對電腦、數學有所興趣，或對編程、解題有所好奇之中一至中四同學報名參加。
No prior knowledge about OI and programming is required.
不設任何門檻，同學不需擁有任何關於 OI 及編程的已有知識。
Students can apply by filling out a simple Google Form.
同學只需填寫一份簡單的 Google Form 便能完成報名。
The deadline will be 21:00 on 13 Feb. All applicants will receive an confirmation email by 07:30 on 14 Feb.
報名將於 2 月 13 日 21:00 截止，而確認電郵會於 2 月 14 日 07:30 前寄予所有報名同學。

2024/25 C++ Foundation Course

2024/25 C++ 基礎課程

All applicants will be invited to join the 3-4 weeks long C++ Foundation Course.
所有報名同學將獲邀參與為期 3-4 週之 C++ 基礎課程。
Participants will learn how to use C++ to solve basic OI problems. Fundamentals of the C++ language and basic problem-solving ideas are covered.
參加者將學習使用 C++ 解決基本 OI 題目，課程內容將包括 C++ 基礎知識及初階解題思路。
The course will be held in the format of interactive tutorial, each participant is assigned to a senior OI Team member as tutor.
課程將以互動教學之形式進行，每位參加者將獲編配一名 OI Team 資深隊員作為其導師。
Generally, there will be two 2-hour tutorial sessions per week. The time and format (on-site / online) of the sessions will be arranged according to participants’ preferences indicated on the application form.
每週將設有約兩節各 2 小時之課堂，其具體時間和模式（面授 / 網上）將根據同學在報名表格中的選擇安排。
The course will be conducted in Cantonese with English slides provided. Verbal language can also be in English upon request.
課程語言為廣東話，配以英文簡報。如有需要，課程亦可以英語進行。

2024/25 Team Selection Test

2024/25 校隊選拔試

Current members (excluding HKOI 2024/25 medalists) and C++ Foundation Course participants are required to take part in the Team Selection Test.
現時隊員（取得 HKOI 2024/25 獎牌者除外）及 C++ 基礎課程之參加者需應考校隊選拔試。
The test will be about 2-3 hours long. Servral coding problems will be included, most of them can be solved by implementing knowledge and skills learnt in C++ Foundation Course.
選拔試約長 2-3 小時。其包括數道編程題目，其中大多數可運用在 C++ 基礎課程中所學到的知識及技巧解決。
Only candidates with satisfactory performance (higher than the cut-off score) would pass and become a member in OI Team.
只有高於及格分數線之考生才能成為 OI Team 隊員。
The cut-off line will be lenient. From previous experience, nearly all candidates who get a positive score can pass.
分數線之訂立將以寬鬆為原則。根據過往經驗，幾乎所有獲得非零分的考生均可及格。

Alumni coaches and student trainers would provide training throughout the year for OI Team memebrs.
校友教練及學生訓練員將在年間為 OI Team 隊員進行訓練。
Topics include Computer Science, Mathematics, problem-solving ideas and competition skills.
內容包括計算機科學、數學、解題思路及比賽技巧。
Various internal contests are being held for members to gain practical experiences, thus performing better in external competitions.

What is coding / programming?

甚麼是編程？

In short, coding / programming is all about telling computers what to do in a way they can understand.
簡單來説，編程就是以電腦可理解的方式告訴它們該做甚麼。
We write our source code in a some programming languages (e.g. C++, Python, Java). By compiling them into executable files or interpreting them, computers can perform operations according to our instructions.
我們會用一些程式設計語言（如 C++、Python、Java）來編寫程式源代碼，通過將其編譯成可執行檔案或進行直譯，電腦便可根據我們的指令執行操作。

What is the Olympiad in Informatics (OI) / competitive programming?

甚麼是電腦奧林匹克 (OI) / 競技編程？

Olympiad in Informatics (OI) / competitive programming is a great activity that helps improve problem-solving and coding skills.
電腦奧林匹克 (OI) / 競技編程是一項有助提高解題能力和編程技術的活動。
Participants try to solve problems within a time limit by coding. Code solutions are automatically evaluated by judge systems on their correctness and efficiency (execution time and memory usage) using hidden test cases.
參賽者嘗試在時間限制內以編程解決題目，提交的程式源代碼將由評測系統使用隱藏的測試數據，根據解決方案的正確性和效率（執行時間和內存使用情況）自動評估。

I don’t know anything about coding. Can I still join?

Absolutely! No prior coding knowledge and experience is needed to join OI Team. We will assist you to take the first step into the world of coding in the C++ Foundation Course.
當然可以！加入 OI Team 不需要任何編程知識及經驗。我們會帶領你在 C++ 基礎課程中邁出進入編程世界的第一步。
We will mostly use C++ in OI, but if you have experience in other programming languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript, Scratch), it will be even better to you to pick up ideas and logic mentioned in the Foundation Course. But don’t worry if you haven’t, as our course is enough beginner friendly that everyone should be able to understand most contents with given tutorials and exercises.
我們主要使用 C++ 編程，但使用其他編程語言的經驗（如 Python、JavaScript、Scratch）亦會有助於理解課程中提到的概念及邏輯。即使你沒有這些經驗也不用擔心，我們的課程是為初學者設計的，我們相信所有人通過教學及練習都能明白課程中的大部分內容。

Is OI more suitable for boys compared to girls?

男生比女生更適合參與 OI 活動嗎？

Not at all! By joining OI Team, everyone can unleash their potential, regardless of gender.
當然不是！在 OI Team 中無論性別如何，所有人的潛力都能得以發揮。
Although boys are more active in the OI community traditionally, with more regional and international competitions held specifically for girls nowadays, girls’ developments in OI will only be better in the future.
雖然傳統上男生在 OI 領域較為活躍，但隨着更多專為女生舉辦的地區及國際性比賽出現，女生在 OI 領域的發展將得到越來越多的支持。
This year, the Hong Kong Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics (HKGOI) competition was established. Our girl members performed well and got satisfactory results.
本年度舉辦了首屆香港女子電腦奧林匹克競賽 (HKGOI)，本隊女生隊員亦取得了不錯的成績。

Will joining OI Team affect my academic results?

參加 OI Team 會影響我的學業成績嗎？

We understand that studying is the priority of students, thus we will carry out training dynamically to suit different members’ situation. We encourage members spending extra time in exploring the OI world, but with the premise of not affecting their normal study.
我們理解學生始終需以學習為先，因此我們將根據各隊員的需要調整訓練負荷。我們鼓勵隊員在不影響正常學習的前提下，花額外的時間探索 OI 的廣闊世界。
In fact, if you are studying or want to study ICT in Senior level, OI will provide you much more than the coding and logical thinking skills needed in the ICT sysllibus, which greatly helps your study. At the same time, some topics in OI are useful in Mathematics and reading problem statements may even help improve your English reading skills!
事實上，如果你正在或有意在將來就讀高中 ICT 課程，OI 將為你提供遠超其課程所需的編程和邏輯思考能力，對你的學習有莫大幫助。同時，OI 亦會牽涉一些在數學科有用的知識，練習時閱讀題目甚至可提高你的英文閱讀能力！
Our S6 graduates have got remarkable results in past HKDSE examinations. In 2023, our three graduates got seven 5**s and seven 5*s in total. In 2024, two of our graduates were even admitted to the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.
我們的中六畢業生在過去的文憑試 (HKDSE) 中均取得了優異的成績。在 2023 年，三名畢業生合共取得了七科 5** 及七科 5* 之佳績；在 2024 年，其中兩名畢業生更分別入讀牛津大學和劍橋大學。
