簡介

Formed in 2021, Olympiad in Informatics Team (OI Team) is a young student-oriented school team that is all about competitive programming. We aim to train students’ problem-solving and coding skills.
電腦奧林匹克校隊 (OI Team) 於 2021 年成立，是一隊年輕、以學生為主導的學術性校隊。本隊以競技編程為本，旨在訓練同學的解題及編程能力。
As the team approaches its fifth anniversary, we have been creating the programming culture in the campus, encouraging students to unleash their potential.
創隊近五年，我們逐漸在校園構建編程文化，鼓勵同學發掘個人潛力。
Becoming a team member not only enhances your personal skills, but also plays an important role in the process of cultivating the team’s culture and driving our development forward.

Our Story

我們的故事

Coach Hsi “Haye” Chan
教練 陳爔
I learnt about OI thirty years ago and it became my first real passion. I even got a chance to represent Hong Kong at the IOI 1996 in Hungary, the climax of my secondary school life which took place in the same school as yours — TWGSS.
我在三十年前接觸 OI，從此燃起了我人生中的第一份熱情。我更有幸代表香港參加 1996 年在匈牙利舉行的國際電腦奧林匹克競賽 (IOI)，成為了我在中學生涯中最難忘的經歷。當時的我和你們一樣，都是荃灣官立中學的學生。
Naturally I picked Computer Science as my major when I went to Cornell University in the US. It opened many doors and I ended up going to Wall Street to build a career in the hedge fund business.
順理成章地，我在升讀美國康乃爾大學時選擇了主修電腦科學，從此為我打開了許多大門。最終我走上了華爾街，在對沖基金行業發展事業。
I hope to help more Hong Kong students get started in this passion. Thanks to Principal Tang’s support, I was able to do exactly that at TWGSS. Throughout the years, I’ve had the privilege to meet so many amazing students at TWGSS, and see the great things they accomplished. Now that TWGSS OI Team has become an institution, I'm sure there’ll be more of you joining the movement.

Six years ago, Coach Hsi “Haye” Chan returned to his alma mater and organised our first OI course. Back then, I joined with the mindset of simply taking an “interest class.” It wasn’t until 2021, when the OI Team was formed, that I truly began to explore the world of OI and devote myself to it. I could never have imagined back then the achievements and growth of today’s team.
六年前陳爔教練重返母校舉辦 OI 課程，當初的我只是以「興趣班」的心態參加。直至 2021 年在各種機緣巧合下 OI Team 成立，我才開始真正探索 OI 的世界、投入其中。而現時隊伍的發展、取得的獎項等，各方面都是當年無法想像的。
This year’s recruitment theme, “Codetinue”, reflects the OI Team’s spirit of striving for improvement through practice. Of course, we are not just about endless boring coding. From the exciting discussions during training to the intense internal contests, and even the casual chats after class, all of these will surely let you feel our passion.
本年度招募主題為「碼不停題」，除了發揚光榮的「食字」傳統外，亦反映了 OI Team 同學力求進步、盡力而為的學習態度。當然，OI Team 並非只有無盡而無趣的「刷題」，訓練時的興奮討論、緊張刺激的隊內比賽、甚至課後隊員間的閒話家常，你絕對會感受到這個「賽碼會」中「碼迷」們的熱情。

OI Team is so exciting. Not only can OI Team enhance your Maths and English skills, but it also earn you prize and money. The more you go to OI Team, the more you learn from the trainers. In here, you can try to self-learn, teamwork with others and solve amazing problems.
OI Team 真的很興奮！在這裏，你不但能提升自己的數學和英文能力，更有機會獲得獎品和獎金（？）。在校隊中，隊員們除了從教練及學長身上學習知識，更重要的是通過自學及不斷練習、與隊友合作，一起解決一道道精彩的題目。
What I want to say is that this is a fun ECA. It is not a stressful study of Computer Science. Instead, you can meet new friends, make fun simulators or even draw a Kirby. You can experience a lot more than what you can imagine.

For those reading this text, are you interested in OI? If yes, join us. If not, I still highly recommend you give it a try. Back when my friends invited me to join the OI Team in Secondary 2, I didn’t even know what OI was. However, after joining the team and participating in many competitions, I learnt a lot from it. Not only does it support my studies, but it also broadens my horizons.
無論你是否對 OI 有興趣，OI Team 都非常值得各位同學嘗試。我在中二時受朋友邀請加入 OI Team，起初我完全不知道 OI 是甚麼；但在參加各項比賽後，我發現自己獲益良多，不僅在學業上有所幫助，亦令我的視野更為廣闊。
Some OI skills are closely related to Mathematics, for example modular arithmetic, which is not in the HKDSE syllabus. These skills will help you achieve better results when solving different problems. With more extended knowledge gained, you can study subjects more deeply.
OI 涉及不少數學技巧（例如「模運算」），掌握這些不在 HKDSE 課程內的方法能使我們更有效地解決問題，而接觸更多延伸知識亦有助於深入學習。
Moreover, OI can greatly enhance your English reading comprehension skills. Since most of our problem statements are in English, you must understand what they are asking in order to score points.
此外，OI 題目大多以英文撰寫，我們必須理解題意才能得分，這亦能潛移默化地提升我們的英文閱讀理解能力。
Earlier this year, I participated in the HKOI Training Camp. Not only did I learn many new problem-solving skills, but most importantly, I met talented OI students from other schools and made friends with them.
今年我參加了 HKOI 集訓營，當中不僅學到新的解題技巧，更認識了來自不同學校的優秀 OI 同學，彼此交流心得。

Time flies, it is already my fourth year as an OI Team member. The team has provided me with invaluable opportunities throughout my OI journey. My problem solving, Mathematics, and programming skills have improved significantly. In addition, the team has allowed me to connect with schoolmates who share the same interests.
時光飛逝，轉眼已經是我加入 OI Team 的第四年。在這段 OI 旅程中，隊伍為我提供了許多寶貴的機會，我的解難能力、數學以及編程技巧都有了顯著提升，更在當中認識了志同道合的朋友。
This year’s recruitment theme, “Codetinue”, reflects the spirit of OI Team being passed down through generations. Our alumni and senior members continue to play important roles in preparing courses, organising contests and supporting recruitment events.

Time flies, it’s already been three years since I joined OI Team. Back then, I had no idea what OI was, but after taking part in many activities, I not only gained a lot academically, but also met a group of like minded friends and experienced countless unforgettable moments. (⁠ﾉ⁠◕⁠ヮ⁠◕⁠)⁠ﾉ⁠*⁠.⁠✧
時光飛逝，轉眼間已經是我加入 OI Team 的第三年了。其實那時的我也對 OI 沒有任何概念，然而在參與了許多活動後，我不僅在學業上收穫滿滿，更認識了一群志同道合的夥伴，經歷了許多難忘的事。(⁠ﾉ⁠◕⁠ヮ⁠◕⁠)⁠ﾉ⁠*⁠.⁠✧
If you’ve ever hesitated because of stereotypes like “girls can’t do programming,” that’s a huge mistake! Although there are more boys in the OI field, that doesn’t mean girls are any less capable. In fact, this year we achieved outstanding results in the Hong Kong Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics, winning the Grand School Prize (Third Runner-up)! (⁠ ⁠╹⁠▽⁠╹⁠ ⁠)

I started learning C++ last year and recently won a Silver Medal in HKOI in early December. Winning a medal feels marvellous! It is cool to see my hard work pay off.
我從去年開始學習 C++，經過一年的訓練，於今年十二月在 HKOI 中獲得銀獎。對於自己的努力得到回報、獲得獎牌，我感到非常高興。
When tackling competitive programming problems, there are often tasks I can’t solve right away. I try to break them down into observations and implementations. When I code, I need to debug carefully and find out what’s wrong. We have to be determined to finally get the green “Accepted” text. The feeling you get after seeing it makes all the hard work worthwhile!
我們在面對 OI 題目時，經常會遇到一些一時未能解決的難關，此時我們會把題目拆解，發現其突破點後逐步拼凑出答案。編程時亦往往會出現各種錯誤，需要仔細除錯，才能找出問題所在。我們必須堅持不懈，才能最終看到「評測通過」，此時所有的辛勤努力都會變得值得。
During OI training after school, I get to learn new problem-solving and implementation techniques. We hang out, do things we enjoy together, listen to editorials, and reflect on our past mini contest performances. It feels like a separate world where we don’t have to worry about anything else like studying, just code and relax.
在放學後的 OI 訓練中，我學會了新的解題與編程技巧。我們會一起交流知識、聆聽題解、反思比賽表現……就像進入了另一個世界般，無需擔心學業，放鬆身心，一心一意地專注編程。
Coding is more than just competing – it’s a passion. Every accepted submission and every bug resolved adds fuel to this relentless drive. You should join our OI Team too! C++ Foundation Course
C++ 基礎課程
  • All applicants will be invited to join the 4-5 weeks long C++ Foundation Course.
  • 所有報名同學將獲邀參與為期 4-5 週之 C++ 基礎課程。
  • Participants will learn how to use C++ to solve basic OI problems. Fundamentals of the C++ language and basic problem-solving ideas are covered.
  • 參加者將學習使用 C++ 解決基本 OI 題目，課程內容將包括 C++ 基礎知識及初階解題思路。
  • The course will be held in the format of interactive tutorial, each participant is assigned to a senior OI Team member as tutor.
  • 課程將以互動教學之形式進行，每位參加者將獲編配一名 OI Team 資深隊員作為其導師。
  • Generally, there will be two 2-hour tutorial sessions per week. The time and format (on-site / online) of the sessions will be arranged according to participants’ preferences indicated on the application form.
  • 每週將設有約兩節各 2 小時之課堂，其具體時間和模式（面授 / 網上）將根據同學在報名表格中的選擇安排。
  • The course will be conducted in Cantonese with English slides provided. Verbal language can also be in English upon request.
  • 課程語言為廣東話，配以英文簡報。如有需要，課程亦可以英語進行。
  • Attendance for this course is not mandatory. However, as the content covered is essential for passing the Selection Test, all applicants are strongly encouraged to attend unless they already have substantial prior experience in coding and OI.
  • 本課程不設出席率要求。然而，課程內容對通過選拔試極為重要；因此除非已具備相當豐富的編程及 OI 經驗，所有申請者均應當出席。
  • The course contents would be reduced this year. You may refer to Chapter 0-6, 10, 12, 14 of last year’s slides for a sense of the contents to be expected.

Team Selection Test (Coding Phase)
校隊選拔試（編程部分）
  • All current members (excluding HKOI 2025/26 medalists) and applicants are required to take part in the Team Selection Test.
  • 所有現有隊員（取得 HKOI 2025/26 獎牌者除外）及報名同學需應考校隊選拔試。
  • The Coding Phase of the test will be about 2-3 hours long. Several coding problems will be included, most of them can be solved by implementing knowledge and skills learnt in C++ Foundation Course.
  • 選拔試之編程部分約長 2-3 小時。其包括數道編程題目，其中大多數可運用在 C++ 基礎課程中所學到的知識及技巧解決。
  • Only candidates with satisfactory performance (above the cut-off score) would pass and advance to the next stage.
  • 只有高於及格分數線之考生才能進入下一階段。
  • You may refer to last year’s paper for the test format. However, this year’s paper would be significantly easier than previous years with a greater focus on basic implementation skills.
  • 考試模式可參考 去年試卷。本年度將更側重於考核學生之基本編程能力，難度將較往年有所下降。

HKOI Heat Foundation Course
HKOI 初賽基礎課程
  • All applicants who advance to this stage should participate in the HKOI Heat Foundation Course.
  • 所有躋身此階段的報名同學將需參與 HKOI 初賽基礎課程。
  • The course will provide training for the Hong Kong Olympiad in Informatics (HKOI) Heat Event, covering topics such as Mathematics, data structures, algorithms, code tracing and reading.
  • 課程將針對 香港電腦奧林匹克競賽 (HKOI) 初賽進行訓練，內容包括數學、數據結構、演算法、理解及分析程式等。
  • Two 2-hour lectures will be held each week, delivered by Coach Hsi “Haye” Chan. All lessons will be held after-school from 15:45 to 18:00.
  • 每週設有兩節 2 小時之課堂，由 陳爔 教練主講。所有課堂將於放學後 15:45 至 18:00 舉行。
  • Lecture dates (10 lessons):
    • 16, 23, 30 Apr, 14, 21, 28 May 2026 (Thursday)

Team Selection Test (Written Phase)
校隊選拔試（筆試部分）
  • The Written Phase of the Team Selection Test will have the same format as HKOI Heat Event. Candidates are required to finish two papers within 1 hour 30 minutes.
  • 校隊選拔試之筆試部分之考試形式將與 HKOI 初賽 相同。考生需於 1 小時 30 分鐘內完成兩份試卷。
  • The test will focus on assessing the knowledge and skills covered in the HKOI Heat Foundation Course, with a similar difficulty to lesson materials.
  • 考試主要考核 HKOI 初賽基礎課程所教授的知識與技巧，難度與課堂內容相若。
  • Candidates with satisfactory performance (above than the cut-off score) would pass and become a member in OI Team. The determination of cut-off line will be lenient.
  • 分數線之訂立將以寬鬆為原則，高於及格分數線之考生將成為 OI Team 隊員。

What is coding / programming?

  • In short, coding / programming is all about telling computers what to do in a way they can understand.

  • We write our source code in a some programming languages (e.g. C++, Python, Java). By compiling them into executable files or interpreting them, computers can perform operations according to our instructions.

What is the Olympiad in Informatics (OI) / competitive programming?

  • Olympiad in Informatics (OI) / competitive programming is a great activity that helps improve problem-solving and coding skills.

  • Participants try to solve problems within a time limit by coding. Code solutions are automatically evaluated by judge systems on their correctness and efficiency (execution time and memory usage) using hidden test cases.

I don’t know anything about coding. Can I still join?

  • Absolutely! No prior coding knowledge and experience is needed to join OI Team. We will assist you to take the first step into the world of coding in the C++ Foundation Course.
  • 當然可以！加入 OI Team 不需要任何編程知識及經驗。我們會帶領你在 C++ 基礎課程中邁出進入編程世界的第一步。
  • We will mostly use C++ in OI, but if you have experience in other programming languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript, Scratch), it will be even better to you to pick up ideas and logic mentioned in the Foundation Course. But don’t worry if you haven’t, as our course is enough beginner friendly that everyone should be able to understand most contents with given tutorials and exercises.

Is OI more suitable for boys compared to girls?

  • Not at all! By joining OI Team, everyone can unleash their potential, regardless of gender.

  • Although boys are more active in the OI community traditionally, with more regional and international competitions held specifically for girls nowadays, girls’ developments in OI will only be better in the future.

Will joining OI Team affect my academic results?

  • We understand that studying is the priority of students, thus we will carry out training dynamically to suit different members’ situation. We encourage members spending extra time in exploring the OI world, but with the premise of not affecting their normal study.

  • In fact, if you are studying or want to study ICT in Senior level, OI will provide you much more than the coding and logical thinking skills needed in the ICT sysllibus, which greatly helps your study. At the same time, some topics in OI are useful in Mathematics and reading problem statements may even help improve your English reading skills!
  • 事實上，如果你正在或有意在將來就讀高中 ICT 課程，OI 將為你提供遠超其課程所需的編程和邏輯思考能力，對你的學習有莫大幫助。同時，OI 亦會牽涉一些在數學科有用的知識，練習時閱讀題目甚至可提高你的英文閱讀能力！
  • Our S6 graduates have got remarkable results in past HKDSE examinations. In 2023, our three graduates got seven 5**s and seven 5*s in total. In 2024, two of our graduates were even admitted to the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge.
  • 我們的中六畢業生在過去的文憑試 (HKDSE) 中均取得了優異的成績。在 2023 年，三名畢業生合共取得了七科 5** 及七科 5* 之佳績；在 2024 年，其中兩名畢業生更分別入讀牛津大學和劍橋大學。
